DescriptionNiso Ramponi, also known as “Kremos” (1924-2002), was a Roman illustrator who started collaborating with “Il Travaso” in 1948 when was already well-known as an animator (he was supposed to make a cartoon based on Federico Fellini’s screenplay, which unfortunately was never completed).“Il Travaso” was a very popular, humorous weekly founded in 1900 under the title “Travaso delle idee”, a hotbed of Italian cartoonists and humorists, from Attalo to Jacovitti, from Umberto Onorato to Alberto Fremura, from Furio Scarpelli to Giammusso. Kremos was nicknamed “Sovrano di donnine” (“King of the little ladies”) by his colleagues at “Travaso”, for the very curvaceous and provocative women he drew for the covers. His editors dubbed him The Scarlet Pimpernel born from a frustration of never knowing where Ramponi could be found, especially when deadlines loomed. From the mid-1940s through the early 1960s, Ramponi’s work could be found everywhere from newspaper comic strips to movie posters to the covers of weekly magazines. This is an amazing pin-up that shows the sheer beauty of Ramponi's linework... he's undoubtedly one of the all-time very best artists in drawing the female figure. Since it's signed "Kremos" (the artist stopped using this pseudonym in 1957 to avoid a copyright fight with a painter that used the same pen name) and also considering the style, we can indicatively date the piece to the early '50s. Many thanks, Giacomo! (and special thanks to Fabio) Paper size: 15.8 x 33 cm Social/Sharing |

yes, your Isidori illustration, together with the posts from the artist Shane Glines about all these almost forgotten magnificent artists of the female figure, showed me a piece of a world mostly unknown to me (not surprisingly, this stuff was popular 20+ years before I was even born)... so, when I saw this Kremos, it really was a no-brainer (and if I'm not wrong, I also remember his art being published in some puzzles magazines when I was a kid) :)
