DescriptionThere's no costumes on this page...no fighting...not even any backgrounds on half of it...and, yet, boy, does it pack a punch. The layout of the top 3 panels is simple, but, the way it makes you move your eyes, as if you were there, ending with that hard look on Logan's face as he's reminded that young Kitty is not from the same world as himself, the one where he had to kill his fiancee Mariko's father by impaling his claws in his face.And the wonderful interplay of bright light and deep blacks in the bottom 5 panels as Mariko contemplates how she must atone for her father Shingen's crimes even after his death...just sublime. Well done, Messrs. Smith, Wiacek and Claremont! And, Tom Orzechowski is the GOAT of letterers, always a huge plus as far as I'm concerned. As a reminder, I am collecting any and all pages from Uncanny X-Men #172, which is *the* issue that turned me into a lifelong comics fan. Paul was a great fit for Claremont's sometimes soap opera style of storytelling. Lovely page.

The storytelling in those top three panels is so superb--the distinct personalities of those four characters all come through so meaningfully and clearly. These are the character dynamics that made us all fall in love with the X-Men back in the day. They don't make 'em like this anymore!

Somebody once described on piece saying "art so beautiful it hurts to look at it". I could not help thinking about this when I saw this page. So balanced, so well thought out, every line has a meaning. Masterpiece in comic art, IMHO.

Having read your descriptions, I, and am sure many others, have one question? Why do you have so many 'fighty' pages when you really appear to love the soap opera elements more?
