DescriptionThis was one of my first pages of original art, purchased for the princely sum of £7 back in the late 1980s. I still remember the excitement of finding this in a cardboard box of assorted (and frequently water damaged) pages in Comic Showcase in London. I love the sequence of panels showing the strain on Doctor Strange’s face – a dramatic technique that Sal Buscema used fairly frequently at that time. Interestingly, Frank Giacoia forgot to ink Subby’s nose, mouth and belt detail in the second panel, but the lines are clear in the published comic.Social/Sharing |

Excellent vintage Buscema. As usual, impeccable anatomy and storytelling. Agreed the bottom panels with Doc Strange doing his thing are great!

Paul, an incredible page by my favorite artist of the Bronze Age. And my favorite inker. Sal and Giacoia in 1972 were unparalleled. Lightning in a bottle. An art collaboration never to be replicated. Bravo!

Unbelievable! An actual page from the very first issue. If I were the Hulk, I couldn't be any more green with envy.

Very special page from issue 1. Indeed dramatic technique in last panels with Dr Strange!
As you commented on my page from Defenders 18. Great to spot this!

The early 80s is when I walked into a comic shop in Akron, OH and bought the Dave Cockrum original art for the cover of Spectacular Spider-Man #7 with that giant Morbius for $35. Great time to buy original art cheap!!
I SO love this page. Can't believe Frank forgot Subby's nose and mouth. To me, that makes it extra special.
