Description

The Surfer re-joins the Defenders, just in time to take on Cyrus Black, who seems intent on destroying the ‘statue’ of the Black Knight in Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum. On this page, Black is using dream magic to appear super-powered and invulnerable to spells and cosmic blasts, while in reality the Defenders are just asleep and dreaming the encounter. It’s so rare to see the Silver Surfer in action in ‘70s art, and this page is action-packed. Sal and Frank throw in a little Kirby-esque energy crackle for Cyrus Black’s materialization, but the imposing figure of Black is pure Sal.

This has got to be one of Sal's best designed pages- everything about it is just perfect! And those crisp McLaughlin inks aren't too shabby either!
