This is definitely a superior example of Dick Ayers's early 1970s art. Syd Shores's inks made a lot of artists look extra-nice. Great pick-up Steve!

NICE! I love the great Bob Layton inks, which rhymes with "stinks"!

I know Bob Layton's ex-girfriend and I won't hear a word against him.

Great page, Steve. I have an Ayers western page in my gallery which has always been one of my favorites. The first time I ever met Dick was about 25 years ago at the old Great Eastern Convention in Philadelphia. He was sitting all alone in Artist's Alley while fanboys were scampering to see Rob Liefeld on the other side of the Convention Center. I felt so fortunate to be able to spend more than a half hour talking with Dick about his Sgt. Fury work, all the inking he did over Jack Kirby, and his western artwork for Two-Gun Kid. Interesting that when I told him I loved the way he drew horses in action sequences, he replied "Thats very kind of you! Stan Lee always told me he didn't like the way I drew horses..." Go figure. A true gentlemen. I have another great Dick Ayers story, but that's for another day.
