Description

The Harlem Hellcats are playing the Firbank Fiends, and a brawl results in a penalty to the Fiends. A biker from the Fiends goes one-on-one against the Hellcats� cave-man (goal keeper), Mooney, who keeps the Inferno Ball out � but unfortunately with his head. Considering the extreme violence of the game, it seems odd that the Hellcats� leader, Giant, is concerned that his team is becoming too� violent. Belardinelli infuses the penalty scene with such energy, that the biker is skidding right out of the page.

Belardinelli might not have been the greatest "draftsman" of that era, but his baroque, dark, obsessive imaginative power makes him an essential contributor to 2000ad's legacy. Over time, one of my favorite artists working for UK comics in the late70s/early 80s. More so than other much more celebrated authors. Gorgeous page. .
