DescriptionIn the story “Dance to the Murder”, we see Richard Rory telling the Man-Thing his life history while drinking coffee (!?!). This baring of his soul to a mute and indifferent muck monster is interrupted by a knife wielding dancer who comes into view, running through the swamp. Then hearing a gunshot, Rory and the Man-Thing run to the rescue of the woman, Sybil Mills, who turns out to be an escaped kidnap victim fleeing from the mysterious masked ‘Demons of Liberation’.I like Ploog’s use of a ‘porthole’, circular panel to indicate the interruption, inset between mirrored panels of Rory drinking from his cup. It conveys sequence and simultaneity at the same time, and has the look of a scene viewed through a telescope – seen at a distance, but in the reader’s view. There are a couple of nice Ploog M-T shots in there as well, with his trademark single-trunk face. Social/Sharing |

Marvel Supernatural thrills and chills! Richard Rory is the main focus on this page, but the ever present Man-Thing lumbers behind and blends in with the bog. Storytelling by Ploog is wonderfully accomplished with camera shots that are well placed. The circular panel at the top suggests an arc camera movement as we move from one side of the face to see the other side. Shadows, closeups, and medium shot of action all serve to round out this masterful demonstration of Ploog's imagination.

What a great page... congrats! It's amazing how, so many decades after discovering these stories as a child, each of Mike Ploog's Man-Thing images is still a direct shot of happy chemicals to my brain. The Ploog/Gerber run featured a lot of shots of Manny just standing around, staying true to character while the action happened around him. Chalk it up to Ploog's iconic interpretation of the character design that any Man-Thing panel is an absolute winner!

Ballerinas need to remember to not bring a knife to a gun fight at the swamp. If you're getting a man thing page, you want a weird one, and this one is awesomely bizarre. Having a Folgers moment with the Man-Thing in the swamp, and the ballerina makes you feel crazy? Heh, love it. Cool score. Congrats!

Wow! Beautiful Mike Ploog Man-Thing page! I love how Ploog laid out the page. It's almost cinematic in the angles he uses and the way he moves from closeups to long shots. Not too many Mike Ploog pages out there, so hang on to this one. It's a keeper.
