Description

Conan the Barbarian was an absolute favorite of mine growing up. The fantastic tales of sword and sorcery were beautifully drawn by the great John Buscema. Once the title moved into the black and white magazine format it was finished by some of the finest inkers on the Marvel staff at that time.

This page is from Savage Sword of Conan #100 from May 1984. From the story, "When a God Lives!" illustrated by Buscema and finished by Ernie Chan. A duo who would partner on many a tale of the Cimmerian.

Excited to add this first Conan page into my collection.

Very special page artistically! The first two panels work in harmony depicting similar scenes from different angles and the clouds switch up. The stipplelike work in the second panel is rare for Chan as the rest of the scenes are more traditional illustration. The tonal wash is also extravagantly applied.

I like the way Chan reversed the sky lighting in panels 1 & 2.
