VWORP VWORP vworp...

One of the most successful translations of a sound effect into comic book form in the history of comics. Can you hear the TARDIS in your mind's eye when you read that? Kudos DWM!

This story was one of my first exposures to comic book Doctor Who, and is very fondly remembered. 1981, the first regeneration of a Doctor in nearly a decade. Good times, good times.

That said, I still find the storytelling flow for these two pages a little awkward, especially page 7.

Part of the responsibility of a storytelling team is to guide the viewer's eyes over a page, making certain the flow of information is easily followed. Every member of the team has some role to play, with the writer getting finished dialogue in time to the artist, who needs to leave appropriate null space in his compositions for the word balloons, with the editor supervising and making final content and placement decisions.

When it's not obvious when a whole semi-splash panel is supposed to be read in the story, it's a problem. Cast your eyes over page 7, and see if I'm right.

The art is executed on standard oversized rigid artist's board, fairly typical for UK comics, but not my favorite. I've included a closeup of the art, trimming away the excess white board space.
