DescriptionAnybody have any ideas about this piece? Pretty page by a Master.This is a recent eBay win. Undoubtably executed by Larry Elmore, confirmed by the Man himself, but with scant recollection of what exactly it was produced for in the mid-1980's. Content and design screams 'STAR FRONTIERS' RPG, sure. (Personally pretty sure it isn't a SNARFQUEST page, as it's executed on a comic-formatted page, not a magazine-proportioned page. But anything's possible, I guess) Assuming its STAR FRONTIERS, is it an ‘ad page’? If so, why isn't there space for ad blurb content? Was it part of a 2-page ad? Was it a story page of some sort included as an illustration in game materials? Or is it just a good-ol-fashioned unpublished page? If anyone recognizes it, I'd be appreciative of a little info. Going to call it an 'illustration' as I'm fairly sure it wasn't for a full book. I suppose I'll call it 'Published' though I have zero evidence of that status. Social/Sharing |

This page caught my eye when it was listed, but I wasn't able to tie it down to a particular title either trying to figure out where it was published. Hopefully one of the other CAFers will recognize it.

It has a beautiful 80's style with the aerobics look of the early part of the decade with the big hair, headband, leotard wear, and leg warmers for that Star spanning or Jazzercise evening.

It is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma; but perhaps there is a key.

Larry illustrated some stories in the Eclipse title Alien Encounters (14 issues from 1985-1986) but that doesn't jive with the date by his signature. Unless that is just the date he signed it, rather than date he drew it?

First, congrats on beating me on the auction!
As for its origin, if it wasn't for Alien Encounters for Eclipse and done on a First board, I believe it was intended for Warp for First. I've no idea if it was actually published before that series drew to a close, but I know artists were solicited to do their own short stories for it. I'd hope to ask Elmore about it at an event he's at today, but life's gotten in the way of me going.

Here's what Larry himself had to say upon seeing the page again...
It's my drawing alright....but I really can't remember what it was done for...It wasn't part of a comic I did for a comic book...it may have been a star frontiers ad ?!! Larry
I'm leaning toward unpublished ad piece, or intended for a game product illustration.
