Description

We lost the great Bob Lubbers five years ago today, on July 8, 2017. He left behind a legacy of wonderful artwork that spanned decades. Bob's ability to create beautiful women was a perfect fit when his friend Al Capp decided to create a strip called Long Sam. A beauty from a hidden valley who had never seen the outside world. The stories revolved around Sam leaving there despite the objections of her man-hating "Maw". Lubbers would illustrate this strip from 1954 through December 1962.

Long Sam's expressions in the first and third panel of this example are terrific. The connection of the backgrounds and the cross hatching in the final panel lead the eye perfectly across the strip.

So glad that my friend Roger Clark was willing to let this one find a home within my collection. Thanks again!

Very sweet example of good girl art from Lubbers as Long Sam plays a caring Florence Nightingale. A very pleasant strip without with her and nature's beauty on full display.

That's a really great daily! Lubbers was so good! Really like the inking on this.
