DescriptionHere's a great all-Epting (pencils & inks) page from Captain America v. 5 #6, the issue from the modern classic Ed Brubaker run (IMO the best Captain America run ever) which featured the unthinkable - the return of Bucky Barnes (as the Winter Soldier)!!Captain America's mind has been playing tricks on him, almost as if he was under mental attack from an adversary. As the clues begin to pile up, Cap and Nick Fury suspect Aleksander Lukin, a rogue Soviet general, may be behind it all and Cap goes to a former hidden World War II-era enemy base in the English Channel to investigate. The old base also happens to be where Cap and Bucky chased down a booby-trapped drone plane, controlled by Baron Zemo, and Cap was lost and Bucky "died" in the final days of World War II. While on the abandoned island, Cap has another mental episode where he is apparently attacked by Zemo and several WWII-era German soldiers, who then vanish, causing him to deduce that someone is using the Cosmic Cube against him. Cap then has a flashback to where where he was falling into the sea and Bucky, stuck to the drone plane, was apparently killed. On the first panel of this page, Cap "sees" the drone plane (and Bucky) being blown up in his memory. An emotional Cap then makes his way back to the S.H.I.E.L.D. plane. Just a beautifully moody, cinematic page by Epting and writer Ed Brubaker! Social/Sharing |

Brubaker and Epting are the masters of storytelling. Panels 3 and 5 really illustrate the moodiness and attention to detail that really hit hard for the reader.

"Bucky stays dead!" No more! Nothing was sacred in comics after that. The spy thriller was back and done is such an astonishing manner by Brubaker and Epting!
