DescriptionItalian Disney fans were shocked when it was announced a sequel to "Topolino e la Spada di Ghiaccio", the first part of an epic fantasy saga written and illustrated by the Master Massimo De Vita, starting from December 1982 (Topolino magazine #1411-1412-1413) to January 1993.In this saga, Mickey and Goofy travel to the Argaar, a fantasy world in a parallel dimension, that is under the menace of evil forces. As you can easily guess, they help the inhabitants of that world to save it from its doom. They need to deal with many challenges, weird creatures, and inhospitable environments, as in the tradition of the very best fantasy. What's peculiar, in these stories, is that the real hero is Goofy, with his particular way of thinking, while Mickey is his sidekick... and everything works wonderfully! Thing is, the saga was tied to its creator (Massimo De Vita, now retired) and thought to be concluded, but Topolino's director thought a new chapter, to celebrate the 40 years since the publishing of the very first episode, could be an option and the creative team of Marco Nucci (script) and Cristian Canfailla (art) worked hard on it. So here's the cover to the second part of the new story, "La Leggenda della Spada di Ghiaccio", amazingly illustrated by Andrea Freccero. The wide angle shot, the characters chosen, the shadow of EVIL, this is a modern cover meant to show the NEW. Ideally, the two covers represent everything the authors had in mind for this new (maybe final) chapter of the saga; they tell you from where we started and where we are going, who the heroes of the story were, and who the heroes will be. Please check the published cover in the additional images as well as the cover roughs here and here. Please also take a look at the interesting alternative cover concepts, here, here, here, and here, which show a different approach. Huge thanks to Andrea and Giacomo!!! Always loved the stories where Goofy plays a leading role 😊 Yet another excellent cover by Freccero!

The ominous shadow is the better of the two concepts and allows for the dramatic rection facial expressions to tease the audience of what's coming within!
