DescriptionPosting this one on the occasion of legendary writer Alan Moore's 70th birthday today!🎉My favorite Alan Moore work is his classic 1984-87 run on DC's Swamp Thing, one of the high points in the history of comics and one of my all-time favorite creative runs. The centerpiece of the run is the 14-part "American Gothic" storyline from issues #37-50 which introduces the occult investigator John Constantine. Constantine guides Swamp Thing on a journey across America and beyond to stop dark forces from summoning an ancient evil before it brings about an end to everything. Along the way, Moore's creature learns his true place in history and the world. The double-sized issue #50 marked the climactic end of the battle between Heaven and the Great Darkness. This amazing double-page splash features hosts Cain and Abel setting up the final chapter of the story while Swamp Thing, Deadman and Etrigan's demon horde march in the Spirit World! Stephen Bissette & John Totleben established a unique, sophisticated look for the title which perfectly complemented Moore's writing and this is an amazing example of their collaboration together! Moore's work on Swamp Thing is definitely my favorite. His Swamp Thing is a jewel - a star on the top of the beautiful Christmas tree that is his body of work

Well I have never seen this stunner. Your narrative sounds like it's a great read too. I hope there's a trade for this one.

Killer Swamp Thing DPS! Love Bissette and Totleben's work during this era. The splash panel that fills the right side of the spread is simply jaw-dropping! So much beauty amidst the horror! Great pick-up, Gene!
