DescriptionIf I recall the story correctly, this issue originally started out as a 'TARZAN' or 'KA-ZAR' inventory story, at least at the breakdown stage. (Note the unusual, complicated artistic credits)Marvel did the same with a few issues of STAR WARS, retrofitting a couple of issues of JOHN CARTER OF MARS into some post- Empire Strikes Back stories featuring Leia. Shoehorning a Tarzan story into a Battlestar Galactica plot required an entire previous issue to be custom-written to lead into this issue. Sheeesh. The lengths they went to to save a few bucks. Quite interesting as this is the same kind of practice that they use for the high budget special effects TV shows to base a few episodes to be grounded dramas rather than action genre spectaculars. They figured the audience would be back the next time anyways. At first glance, this is more planet of the apes.

Certain episodes of GALACTICA were shockingly obvious riffs on familiar movie tropes, such as 'GUN ON ICE PLANET ZERO' being a pastiche of 'GUNS OF NAVARONE' and "THE LOST WARRIOR' being a homage of 'SHANE.' So, yes, taken in that light, there is a certain irony to having pages from earlier comics repurposed as GALACTICA storylines.

It's so interesting that I can actually see a little something of all three artists in the final product. Even Buscema who just did the layouts. Cool page.
