DescriptionI've provided some background information on Mort Cinder, Alberto Breccia & Hector German Oesterheld's graphic storytelling triumph, in the 'Charlie's Mother' description in this same gallery. In this story, Ezra the Antiquarian examines two objects brought from a collector: a ring that he thinks has some value and a brick that he is about to throw away. But Mort stops him, telling him the brick ‘is from the most fantastic building project humanity has ever undertaken.’ Mort tells us that it’s one of the millions created from green mud in an ancient valley in the Euphrates and used in building the Tower of Babel! How does Mort know? He was among the builders of the Great Tower thousands of years ago in ancient Babylon. But based on his passion for the project, he ends up working directly for the three wise men who had planned the tower and were seeing over its construction under King Nimrod. It’s working for them that he discovers a secret that is costing hundreds of slaves a day their lives – the Tower is being built to launch a ship into the stars and to the moon. And the wise men plan to take Mort with them. But, not everyone thinks humanity is ready to travel into the heavens, and the destruction of the Tower of Babel, the description of which is reduced to a few lines in the Book of Genesis, is the result of higher powers delaying that inevitability. BTW...this is the last Breccia Mort Cinder page I'm adding to this gallery...for now :) Social/Sharing |
