DescriptionWhile we wait to discover Rek-Rap's final fate, I have one more page from issue #53 to post. For me, this issue mainly pits the Green Goblin against a motley team led by Ms Marvel that included Rek-Rap, Curt Connors, the Walking Brain and, of course, Rek-Rap. But Spider-Man is in the wings, back to (almost) normal after his recent stint as the evil SPIDER-GOBLIN -- though Norman's thoughts are still rattling around in his brain as he tinkers with Kraven's spear and the Winkler Device. I won't get into those two items ... sufficeth to say they are the reason Spidey's in this mess to begin with, and he hopes to use them to his advantage. Spidey confronts the Goblin again, but the conniving Green Goblin once again gets the best of him, infusing Spidey AGAIN with his evil and sins. I wanted this splash partly because it's another major turning point in the story leading to the final showdown in issue #54, but mainly because of the exciting (and scary) way that Ed McGuinness artistically shows this transfer. When the Green Goblin is involved, things get CRAZY! Social/Sharing |

That Goblin splashy panel is just plain nuts in a good way. Killer page Paul!

The first panel is great, but I also love the warped Goblin face in the second panel.

So ghastly! It's like Mcguinness put the Goblin's evil smiling face in that last panel like how EC would put the Old Witch to close a story!

Yeah, crazy energy and love the expressions, including the shocked Spidey in the splashy panel up top lthen that kind of gratified sneer from GG in the last. These 2...the perfect adversaries. Congrats, man!

The artistry in the first panel alone is worth the price of admission! How could you NOT want this page? But let me get this straight. There's a motley team led by Ms Marvel that included Rek-Rap TWICE? Like, he has the power to duplicate himself ala Jaime Maddox and they both go by the same name?

Hahaha! Bless you for actually reading my descriptions. I did write his name twice by mistake. But you know what? I'm keeping it that way, cuz you never know...maybe duplication IS one of his powers. There is still a lot to learn about this strange & silly new Spidey character. Plus, this way, I get to keep your funny comment,

Well in fairness, you'd get to keep my comment anyway, as I wouldn't delete it. But this way the comment continues to makes sense!

Yeah, that's what I meant. If I keep it as is, I get to keep your comment, and it will continue to make sense. Actually, when I wrote that sentence in the description last night, something was nagging at me, and now I know why that was. But now when I read the multiple Rek-Raps, it's kind of funny and fitting, given that I love the character and subconsciously must have wanted to emphasize his role in this particular Spidey story. Not that it's an exact analogy, but I liken it to a movie executive saying, "We're going to do this movie, because it'll make a lot of money, it's artistic, it's relevant, it stars some of the hottest new talent, and of course ... it'll make a lot of money." And THAT reminds me of Ryan George's pitch meetings where the movie executive asks the script writer why he wants to do a particular movie, and the script writer says, "Because ... money." To which the movie producer replies "That works!" And THAT remind me that I need to get some sleep, because I am rambling! Good night ...
