DescriptionBeautiful illustration that was created by the talented Carlos Dearmas for a book from Rafael Curci. The artwork was completed in 2021 for the title published a year later.It is a portrait of Jakub Schulz, a cloth merchant who ran an unsuccessful fabric shop in the market square of Drohobycz, Austrian Galicia. He was the father of acclaimed visual artist and writer Bruno Schulz. Jakub was a central figure in Bruno's literary mythology, often appearing as the ailing father in his stories. Jakub was a picturesque character who could transform into various beings, such as a fireman, a cockroach, and a merchant magician. Dearmas has created this amazing visual interpretation of a phantasmal Jakub Schulz. With details it takes multiple viewings of the piece to uncover. So much rendering goodness is packed into this relatively small artwork which measures 6.75 inches by 9.75 inches in actual size. Was thrilled when Carlos let me know this piece was available and jumped on the opportunity to add it into my collection. Social/Sharing |

Thanks Kavi! Dearmas's work amazes me. It is a bit of a throwback to a classical style of illustration.

Killer composition paired with some absolutely sublime line work makes for an arresting image, indeed! I gotta get a Dearmas piece myself soon. Congrats, Lee!

Looks like it's a cover for a book anthology of bedtime stories. From hints of stories about the jungle, ocean, air, and land through what's on the four corners, this is illustrated to hold up for all time.

Hard to believe this is so small yet so full of detail. There is some beautiful rendering on display here, congrats! Hadn't heard of Carlos before, so thanks for sharing!

I would love to say I discovered him on my own, but truth is Chris Snorek pointed me in his direction during a CAF Update! (Learned about many new artists watching his picks.)
But you are correct that Dearmas is tremendously talented Kin.

That's a great face and expression! He can draw the hell out of forests and jungles! Perfect addition to your collection!
