Description

Happy to pick up something by my favorite EC artist Johnny Craig. An original page from Crime and Suspenstories would be well out of my league but I was lucky to grab this collection of prelims for a painted illustration/commission. There is a page of thumbnails, a couple larger tonal studies, a finished pencil study, an inked study, and finally a watercolor study. It�s like having my own Johnny Craig Famous Artist Course lesson! I assume these were done for a commissioned painting he did in the 80�s but nothing is dated so if anyone has ever seen the finished product please let me know! Maybe it ended up in Squa Tront or something?

I wonder if he ever took out ads in the CBG to do commissions back in the 80's. A painting from him or any Golden Age artist during that time period would have been a very high end collectible for the art collector.

Now that is a cool grouping of images. I am a process junky so probably biased but very cool to see those simple shape thumbnails, some people call them notans I think. Anyway great group and I like that black and white line art piece. You should give that image it's own post.
