Description

It is a treat to watch Brian work with his brush and create remarkable (pardon the pun) pieces like this. He makes a rough pencil sketch first, which can still be seen in the finished product, and then fleshes the majority out with his brush. Adding background imagery, such as the bats, with a couple of flicks of his wrist. This was my first time meeting Brian and he was very very pleasant to converse with. I needed to make Batman my first piece from him because I always marveled at the work he did on all those Shadow of the Bat covers in the '90s. His knowledge and use of lighting in his art is inspirational. 8.5" x 11" in my sketchbook.

Cool Batman sketch! Stelfreeze is so good, I sorta wish I got something from him at this show, but maybe another time down the road!

Stelfreeze works in brush much like his painted works with deft control of what is and what isn't outlined. It places more emphasis on the jaw and profile. Plus you get some great looking bats in the background.

I love how only a few loose, suggestive brush strokes come together to form a wonderful, fully fleshed out portrait.
