Infantino/ Alcala SSOC 34, P.3 Owner: gPrez *** Comment posted on 10/30/2022
Lee Harmon said:
Alcala just makes everyone better. No exception here. Fantastic panel but truly the whole page is quite nice. congratulations and thanks for sharing with us here! ![]() Lee, I agree! The top panel pictures him as a young (16 year old?), reminds me a bit of the SSOC #24 Buscema Tower of the Elephant. Mostly artists draw Conan as a mature person even if they are drawing the early stories like Queen of the Black Coast, Rogues in the House, etc. That's what I really like about BWS's early issues, Conan LOOKED young! |

Andy Attacked! - Ed Dodd Owner: gPrez *** Comment posted on 10/23/2022
Benno Rothschild said:
It's likely this one was at least partially ghosted by Ed's assistant Tom Hill who was a superior animal artist and did a lot of the heavy lifting for Dodd in this period (which is when I read it regularly in my hometown paper) Jack Elrod, who was also helping Ed and eventually took over the strip had a chunkier one weight than Tom Hill. ![]() Benno, amazing! What other work did Tom Hill's work appear in? |

Beautiful Adams Conan page! Two inking credits? This inks on Conan in each panel where he appears certainly looks like DeZuniga to me. ![]() So the art credits listed are "Neal Adams and The Tribe" which usually consisted of Tony DeZuniga, Sonny Trinidad and sometimes others. Frankly, I'm not sure I can separate out the difference between these two great inkers, but whoever did it did a fine job! |

Jonah Hex by Tony Dezuniga Owner: Marcus Wai Comment posted on 7/31/2022 Such a wonderful rendering! Tony had a way to give his work such veracity, while not needing to hide lines that were imperfect and the purposeful smudge! Frazetta is the only other artist that can get away with that! |

That Cimmerian Youth (Conan) - Tony DeZuniga Owner: gPrez *** Comment posted on 3/5/2022
said:
It is very unusual to see a younger depection of the Cimmerian. This stands out from the crowd for many reasons. Thanks for sharing it with us! ![]() Patrick, I couldn't agree more. Most artists except BWS seem to think of Conan only as a full-grown individual. Many renderings I've seen of his first adventures: Frost Giant's Daughter, Tower of the Elephant, Rogues in the House even to Queen of the Black Coast, he was probably under 20, but drawn like a 40 year old, Even Frazetta, I think aged him too much (look at the Frost Giants and Fighting Thaug covers.) and that is precisely what appeal to me also about this cover! |

The roughness allows for an impressionistic feel where it suggests a liveliness and in motion feel. Mayerik has a great vision and uses his incomparable skill to make it come alive. ![]() Exactly Marcus! To me it just feels like the characters are at the "point of action" Frazetta was always able to pinpoint. |
