Beautiful stuff Matt! This mammoth piece is definitely my favorite. Love the composition and use of scale to create such an evocative image. Glad you were able to add these to your collection since you have such a nice connection with them! ![]() Thanks Chris. Yeah the perfect example of Brad's use of scale and mood. This and the wolves ones were the stand outs of the 5 images that were up for auction. A bit bitter sweet to get these after he passed but happy to have some of his work to enjoy every day. Glad you enjoy them too FYI just put up nice scans of all 3. |

I used to know a guy who said he knew Brion James personally and that in real life he was a real sweetheart. You’d never be able to tell that from this portrait. “If looks could kill …” Brrrr. ![]() From his movie rolls he always seemed like an intense guy. Interesting how art doesn't always reflect life. |

Gorgeous! I'm jealous, I thought real hard about getting a Houdini piece when his commission list opened up last month. Wish we had more comics by him! ![]() Thanks Chris, yearh I too missed out on this commission list too, so I wrote to Mark to see if he has any of these BR pieces left, and luckily he did. And agreed, it is a shame there isn't more work by Mark out there, but he did spearhead some amazing comics from his time at DC. |

The thinner paints not only allow us to see the drawing underneath, but also show the brush strokes and their direction and flow even as Mifune has that anger bottled up in reds. ![]() Great observation. Yeah the bottled up anger is the perfect feeling for this piece. Mifune often looked like he was about to explode! |

George Pratt Wraith: the Great War White Wolf Games illustration Owner: Matt Dicke Comment posted on 3/21/2025
Kavi H said:
the style matches the energy of the subject material with a frenetic fog of war looseness but still super clear figure work up close. the charcoal effect for the bodies on the horizon is a nice touch as well as the guns in pure black/silhouette. fantastic Pratt war piece, congrats! ![]() Yeah I love that contrast of the ink and the charcoal and that depth really attracted me to the piece. I looked up what it was for and the roll playing game is about being a ghost and not moving on for various reasons. Dark and deep and the art fits it perfectly. |

Mark English 60's illustration sketch study. Owner: Matt Dicke Comment posted on 2/6/2025
artless artmore said:
Beautiful! Love the drama in the woman's pose and so much personality in that wedding cake of a Victorian. The handling reminds me a bit of Bernie Fuchs, even though it's acrylic ![]() Ha wedding cake is a great way to describe that house. And Fuchs worked exculsivley in acrylics for most of the 60's and it was the style that made him the most emulated artist of that era. Hence why English was working in a similar manor though Mark's work was a bit more delicate and more abstract with all the patterns. |

Jeff Watts charcoal Conan study from Frazetta Owner: artless artmore Comment posted on 2/5/2025 This one reminds me of the great Friday night live stream he did doing small master copy paintings in gouache. One of them was a Frazetta Coanan head. Amazing how he was able to copy and emulate JC lindecker or Frazetta or Dean Cornwall or Wyeth. He is bouched around styles with ease, just like in this piece. It really shows off how well he understands anatomy and can render the human form. Cool piece. |
