Well, as you well know, if Phil hangs onto them for too long, even published paintings get a makeover. Great piece, glad you rescued it.

That's a really cool piece. One of the auctions I watched out of curiosity

I still have all of these cards and there was a time when I actually thought I would bring them to San Diego and start getting them signed by artists. But since I refuse to wait in line-- even for a cup of coffee, that wasn't going to ever come to fruition. This is a cool one, for sure!

We've talked about this. John Cuneo is a genius. Watching him start in one corner and just start making an image, no blue line, no pencil--- it is fascinating.

Is it ok to say I really like the way he handled the trees? A+

I was always confused by the Kirby/Wood signature blurb on those later ones, thinking, "No way Woody touched that." I've heard different versions over the years, but none so clear as this. Nice little write-up. And a very cool strip.

Jones Spacemen always looked pretty rad.

I like it. I'm generally partial to the Badhiars with robots in them, but Phil has been making them more "minimal" in each successive painting for some time-- until we are here-- Still a very nice one, though. Congrats.

Hmm. I'd sure like to know why Carl Kolchak looks like he does here... was this some sort of early comp before that film was cast and released? Very interesting.

I'm a fan of Berkey's original head (here) rather than the one they used.

I think this Kirby guy is gonna be huge.

Love those 100-page DC books with the square binding, especially the covers. I specifically remember this one and still have it. It dawned on me how many covers there are out there showing Batman aiming or firing a gun at someone. Batman plugging Talia Al Ghul in the back? Batman's a jerk!

There are so many hand-colored covers out there that I think completely ruin the art. This is not one of them. Whoever colored this did it justice. It's better than what was printed.

Boy, he really did a good job with that.

Great page. Loved every page of this issue, Barry had it dialed in, but those inks are really solid, too.

It's still a fantastic splash.

Excellent page, Joseph. I own page 3 from this issue. I'd always wanted a Miller/Austin and it sort of showed up one day, so I just went ahead and paid way too much for it!

This thing is just great. I've been staring at it trying to figure out who inked what. I can't. It appears to be mainly Wrightson inks to me, but something about the figure top left feels a little more Kaluta. I wouldn't be surprised if this is Kaluta pencils and Wrighton inks mostly. But you know what, it doesn't f%$#ing matter. It's an excellent page.

I really liked the art in these two books. A bit of Kelly Jones, with a touch of Jack Davis. Slightly cartoony on some level, but pretty badass and great shadows. Kyle might bristle at that, but I mean it as a compliment.
