Not sure if I fully agree with that. Cir-El was indeed used as a plot device, which sucks, I really liked her, but not really for Lois being an abusive wife since it was pretty obvious from the start that Lois was acting off. As for the plot device if anything she was more of an excuse to make a Supergirl to take the fallout of Linda Danvers series ending so that when the new classic but modern Supergirl would be introduced Linda Danvers fans couldn't blame the newest Supergirl but Cir-El instead.
