Like many people I started out collecting comicbooks. In the late 1980s I had almost all of the Doctor Strange issues and was down to either upgrading or the few very expensive ones. In 1991 I found my first piece of original art at a local comic book show. I truly was amazed that you could buy that stuff! I somehow thought it was in secret vaults of the comic companies or only available to the rich "in crowd". (Let's say there is a select market for the "A" level material but that leaves a lot of "Bs".) I bought original art every year at SDCC from then on. Each year I would set a budget and then agonize how fast it would go. One year I spent my budget in the first 15 minutes of preview night. I thank the dealers and other collectors who were so friendly at SDCC and let me look over their shoulders or listen as they talked about the art. I discovered the Lowry and the listserv in 1999. All of a sudden I found out what I had been collecting. Up to that point I had never met anyone (outside of SDCC) who collected original art. So the list is both my teacher and my recreation. Alsmost everyday I read the conversations and keep up with our special collecting world. Thanks.
