Power Girl #11 cover

Featured: 10/26/2025
Owner R Lee Paid Member
Join us in wishing a very happy 55th birthday to artist Terry Dodson! In addition to working on creator owned titles like Adventureman, Red One, and Coraline, Dodson is one of the industry's most prolific cover artists. His dynamic and engaging images are fan favorites like this featured variant cover depicting Power Girl soaring through the clouds among a flock of birds.

"Honestly, it's business as usual for me: Someone asks if I want to do a job, in this case a cover, and if I have a hole in my schedule I fill it," Dodson told Comic Book Resources in a 2013 interview. "After 20 years now in the business, I've drawn just about every character in comics so it's really about making a great cover."

As everyone knows, Dodson will be a guest at the third Original Art Expo (OAX) next February in Orlando, FL.  Be sure to sign up for the newsletter and follow our YouTube channel for all the latest updates and commission opportunities.

Superior Spider-Man 31 pg 25 - Return of Amazing Spider-Man

Featured: 10/25/2025
Owner Peter Marino Paid Member
For a period of years, Doctor Octopus switched his consciousness with that of his nemesis and took over as the Superior Spider-Man. During his time in Peter Parker's body, Otto Octavius learned the meaning of power and responsibility, grew as a person, and even got himself a girlfriend, Anna Marie Marconi.

On this featured page Peter Parker has retaken control of his body and after speaking with Anna Marie, realizes the sacrifice Octavius made so he could survive. Artist Giuseppe Camuncoli honors the moment in the final panel with an homage to John Romita Sr's iconic "Spider-Man No More" cover art from Amazing Spider-Man #50.

"Giuseppe Camuncoli didn't just run the marathon. He ran it at a sprint. And he never compromised his style and craft! It's beautiful! It's stunning!" Writer Dan Slott said of his frequent collaborator to Comic Book Resources in an interview. "Chain me to this guy! I want to work with him on projects for the rest of my life! I love Giuseppe Camuncoli!"

Conan #7 Cover

Featured: 10/24/2025
Owner Huy Duong Paid Member
Armed with nothing but a dagger, Conan the Cimmerian finds himself trapped in the coils of the terrifying Man-Serpent. With a serpentine body and smaller snakes emerging from its head, this medusa type of creature has already dispatched Conan's companions and the barbarian is valiantly fighting to free himself.

This is an early example of Barry Windsor-Smith's famed run on this title, even before he added "Windsor" to his professional name as noted by the signature just under the corner box. He famously still lived in his parents' home in England while working on the first seven issues of Conan.

During his time adapting the work of Robert E. Howard to comics, Windsor-Smith's style evolved quickly as he took on additional duties plotting and laying out storylines in the Marvel Method. He also started incorporating more influences from outside of the comics world. "Conan, being non-super-hero and non-Marvel universe, just happened to be the right vehicle to create havoc with the old order, the status quo and its flabby trappings. I harnessed all sorts of influences in that series— some not even noticed or acknowledged," Windsor-Smith told Comic Book Artist magazine.

Master Comics #27 (Fawcett 1942) - Mac Raboy

Featured: 10/23/2025
This featured cover is a beautiful example of Golden Age illustration with stunning crosshatch ink work by artist Mac Raboy, co-creator of the central figure Captain Marvel Jr. Originally published in June 1942, as the second World War raged on, he triumphantly holds up the V for Victory gesture in defiance of the villain Captain Nazi. This period of Master Comics and the entire Fawcett line was distinguished by the patriotic themes in support of the war.

Comic books were ubiquitous during this era, influencing kids from the streets of New York City to a shotgun house in Tupelo, MS where a future King of Rock n Roll imagined himself being a hero himself. "When I was a kid, I read comic books and I was the hero of the comic book. I saw movies and I was the hero of the movie. So every dream that I ever dreamed has come true a hundred times," Elvis Presley is quoted to have remarked and even based his stage look with the lightning bolt symbol, half-cape, and gold lame accents on his childhood idol Captain Marvel Jr.

IAX Poster Art 2025

Featured: 10/22/2025
Last January's Original Art Expo (OAX) expanded the show's purview to include more of the commercial illustration arts in addition to comic art. One of the artists invited was David Palumbo, best known for his work on the Marvel Masterpieces card set. He also agreed to create a convention poster for the show, the original art of which is featured here today.

"I thought it would be fun to do something that was comic book with a fantasy vibe to it," Palumbo said in a process video on his Youtube channel. "Something I haven't painted yet is Batman and so I thought it might be fun to do a Dark Knight where this is more of kind of a medieval fantasy  setting Batman in a suit of armor type thing."

As everyone knows, Palumbo will join us again next February in Orlando, FL for the third annual OAX. He currently has very few spots left on his pre-OAX commission list, so go claim one before the opportunity is gone.

The Shaolin Cowboy: Cruel To Be Kin (French Hardcover)

Featured: 10/21/2025
Owner Tyler T Paid Member
Join us in wishing a very happy 70th birthday to artist Geof Darrow! Known for his high octane action scenes and minutely detailed illustrations, Darrow's work stands alone in today's industry.

Featured here is the cover for the French edition of his latest Shaolin Cowboy storyline. Our nameless hero finds himself connected to a young Komodo dragon, in the tradition of the classic samurai manga Lone Wolf and Cub, and teaches him the ways for survival in the vast desert. This image rewards the reader who takes the time to pore over every intricate detail, from the litter scattered over the rocky bluff to the individual buildings making up the cityscape. Darrow is unmatched in his dedication to building a scene.

"I've heard some artists say, "I can do backgrounds, but they bore me, so I don't do them." I'm like, "Wow." You can tell a lot from a background," Darrow said in an interview. "European artists have a different style. You don’t have many splash pages. You never have a main character flying through empty space. Moebius would have a city that has depth."

Gi joe Snake Eyes cover 10 feat: Storm Shadow

Featured: 10/20/2025
Owner David Geo Paid Member
This featured cover art depicts Storm Shadow, the Arashikage ninja and sometime double agent of Cobra, as drawn by frequent GI Joe artist Robert Atkins. While this fresh design gives the character a bit of a modern update while holding fast to his original uniform, its popularity caused a bit of frustration for Atkins when it was reused without compensation.

"One MAJOR downside to working on Licensed properties… I did this design for IDW Publishing unpaid to redesign Storm Shadow for the book. Only to have it used time and again for new high end product I'll never be credited or paid for. Create your own," Atkins noted on social media. "I definitely benefited in my career being associated with the property, and starting your career, you need to take paying jobs. But this does take advantage of comic artists. We rarely get paid extra for all the Concept design we do that gets repurposed."

Batman #252 Cover Art by Nick Cardy

Featured: 10/19/2025
Gotham City is once again plagued by the Spook, a criminal who was sent to the electric chair ten years prior. Naturally, Batman takes it upon himself to exhume the coffin to make sure the Spook is really dead.

As this cover by legendary artist Nick Cardy implies with the empty coffin, there is more to this case than meets the eye. While Batman is no stranger to the occasional supernatural foe, the spectral figure of the Spook flying up from the grave is a bit of a red herring.

It does, however, embrace the horror aesthetic of the overall image of Batman looking into an open grave with nothing but a lantern to light his way. The bare spindly tree in the background further enhances the mood of the scene. This particular issue was released 52 years ago in October 1973, no doubt to capitalize on the Halloween season.

KISS Destroyer (2017)

Featured: 10/18/2025
Owner Greg Gross
The music world was surprised and saddened by the sudden passing of Ace Frehley, guitarist for the rock band KISS. Known for their larger than life personas and theatrical performances both on stage and off, KISS occupy a unique place in pop culture where they portrayed themselves as characters straight out of a comic book, famously refusing for many years to even appear in public without their signature makeup. Seen here on a reproduction of the cover to the album Destroyer by painter Ken Kelly, Frehley is depicted in his guise as Space Ace the Spaceman, reflecting his interest in science fiction. He also designed the double lightning bolt for the band's logo.

"I believe I'm going to be remembered as a straight shooter and a guy who stayed true to his craft and was respected by his peers. I brought happiness to a lot of people. I was always the funny guy in KISS. That's how I would like to be remembered," Frehley said in a recent interview

On behalf of the CAF community, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and fans around the world.

Transformers 10 pg 20 “Shockwave starts his plan”

Featured: 10/17/2025
As Spike Witwicky and Beachcomber look on in horror, Shockwave reveals his evil to bring Cybertron into Earth's orbit via the space bridge. Artist Jorge Corona had the unenviable task of following up Daniel Warren Johnson's initial run on the new Transformers title but luckily he was more than up to the task of matching the energetic pace and showing emotion through the metal faces of robots.

"Everyone told me 'oh you're gonna be drawing robots you're gonna hate it.' I was like no, I don't have to think about anatomy, I don't have to think about the deltoids, biceps, triceps. It's just box box box box box like I'm good," Corona said during an interview. "Daniel already had the foundation in the first six issues that he was already playing enough with the shapes. Daniel's style is more extreme than mine but like I knew that door was already open so I was like oh I can twist shapes, I can exaggerate, I can bend, and I knew what that range was."

Wolverine Netsuke #1 p11 panel 3 (2002) George Pratt

Featured: 10/16/2025
Logan huddles against the driving snow in this single image by George Pratt from his comic Wolverine: Netsuke. Pratt took a unique method towards this time travel story in which Logan is transported to medieval Japan by painting each panel individually and then digitally stitching them together.

"When I worked on Wolverine Netsuke, I was working on small pads, so I could just sit down, draw with a pen, and then compile them as a page on the computer based on my layouts," Pratt told Tripwire. "It was liberating because I could have fun drawing again. If it’s a little wrong, I’ll rip it out and do another one. I like the idea of the spontaneity that comes out of that, and the happy accidents."

As everyone knows, Pratt will join us once again as a guest artist at the Original Art Expo (OAX) in Orlando, FL next February. Please subscribe to the OAX Newsletter and the CAF+ YouTube channel to stay up on all the latest news and developments.

Drew Struzan - Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - 2007 - Final Advance Movie Poster Artwork

Featured: 10/15/2025
Owner Monty B Paid Member
World renowned illustrator Drew Struzan has passed away after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease several years ago. With more than 150 film posters to his credit along with album, novel, and comic book covers, he was a huge influence on pop culture in the late 20th century. His superb eye for composition and photo-realistic detail made him the premiere artist for filmmakers including Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Frank Drabont, and Guillermo Del Toro.

"Drew was an artist of the highest order," Lucas said in a statement upon Struzan's passing. "His illustrations fully captured the excitement, tone and spirit of each of my films his artwork represented. His creativity, through a single illustrated image, opened up a world full of life in vivid color…even at a glance. I was lucky to have worked with him time and time again."

On behalf of the CAF community, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and fans around the world.

Hellboy: House of the Living Dead Page 33

Featured: 10/14/2025
As Halloween season descends upon us, take a trip down to Mexico in 1956 where Hellboy has stumbled into a horror show of undead brides, werewolves, and mad scientists. Artist Richard Corben keeps the action moving along at a fast clip with the young woman's life force reviving the woman in the coffin as Hellboy himself struggles to overcome the werewolf that is attacking him.

"This story, I made up because I saw how much fun Richard had doing the "Hellboy in Mexico" stuff and I wanted to do a Hellboy in Mexico story, so I made up this story for me -- and then realized it would be so much better drawn by Richard. So I turned it over to him." writer and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola told CBR. "I've actually plotted a couple more stories that take place in this chunk of time. So it's really that whole lost weekend."

The Great Dragon Smaug by Donato Giancola (from Tolkien's The Hobbit)

Featured: 10/13/2025
As everyone who watched the special CAF+ show last Saturday night knows, renowned fantasy illustrator Donato Giancola will join us this February 20-22, 2026 in Orlando, FL for the third annual Original Art Expo (OAX)! This beautifully painted cover for The Hobbit features the dragon Smaug in his lair in the former Great Hall of Thráin deep within the Lonely Mountain. The treasure hoard appears to glow with a life of its own, illuminating every scale of the ancient wyrm.

"I think what intrigued me about the Original Art Expo is that you are celebrating traditional media, you are celebrating those tangible things that connects me to why I am making art as a professional to this day," Giancola told Bill Cox and Taitana Dykes. "So, I really appreciate the chance to step into your world."

Giancola has graciously agreed to accept a limited number of commissions (Middle Earth / Lord of the Rings-themed only please) exclusively for OAX attendees. This is a rare opportunity to add work from a modern master to your collection so do not delay in submitting your request on the website

Batman / Superman World's Finest #5 cover by Dan Mora

Featured: 10/12/2025
Owner Myron Tay Paid Member
Look up in the sky! While the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight have been run ragged by the sinister machinations of the devil Nezha this cover shows them road-hauling him high above the city with Supergirl and Robin quite literally in tow. Artist Dan Mora does an incredible job at showing the strength and determination on the faces of Superman and Batman without sacrificing the wholesome benevolence of the period. He has intricately captured the details and layout of the cityscape below them combined with a bird's eye perspective to convey the dizzying height. The way Superman's flight trail becomes the S-symbol is also a nice touch.

"Dan Mora is an amazing artist on this book. Man, is he bringing the heat? It really looks and feels like a very modern comic book, which is again the goal, right? I don't want to look like it's Silver Age karaoke," said writer Mark Waid on the Comics Cube podcast. "They're still very modern and timeless I think in this case."

WOLVERINE 54 p 20/21 DPS 2007

Featured: 10/11/2025
This double page spread from Simone Bianchi's run on Wolverine where once again Logan is put through the wringer in order to learn about his own past and the secret connection between himself, Sabretooth, and the hairy, clawed mutants. Bianchi's singular style works well conveying the visceral physical pain and emotional trauma of this moment on Wolverine and the other heroes in the wake of Sabretooth's attack.

Bianchi spoke with Comics Alliance about his creative process on this series saying, "It's all about getting a more fluent and clearer storytelling. I want to think that my drawing personality will stay just the same and make me as recognizable as I was before. If you take each single panel, one by one, you'll have the exact Simone Bianchi you had before from a straight artistic and drawing point of view. But if you take the page as a whole, you'll find a huge difference. In better, I hope."

Bianchi will make a rare US appearance next February at the third annual Original Art Expo (OAX) as part of the DiTullio Art Collective along with Simone Di Meo and Esad Ribic. Sign up for the newsletter on the website to keep up to date on all the latest developments and announcements.

Destro - Issue 4 - PG 20 - Andrei Bressan

Featured: 10/10/2025
One of the keys of leadership is to effectively present oneself as someone with a singular vision which inspires confidence and motivates action. So Cobra Commander arriving in such a dramatic fashion in full regalia with cape and mirrored helmet helps to instill loyalty and obedience in the troops. The angle artist Andrei Bressan has composed this featured splash gives the impression of being a lowly grunt in the Cobra army standing behind Tomax and Xamot looking up at Cobra Commander.

This week Skybound Entertainment will unite the Energon Universe creative teams of GI Joe, Transformers, and Void Rivals in Manhattan for New York Comic Con with panels and signings on site plus a group signing at Midtown Comics in Times Square with Bressan, fellow artists Tom ReillyJorge CoronaAndrea Milana, and writers Joshua Williamson, Conor Hughes, and Ben Abernathy on Friday, October 10th. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

Grendel: R/W/B tpb cover

Featured: 10/9/2025
Owner Dan M. Paid Member
As antiheroes became all the rage in the grim 'n gritty 80s, Matt Wagner introduced a lead character who seemed like a hero, the suave and sophisticated Hunter Rose, but in reality, was a villainous monster, the assassin Grendel. Both sides are represented here by the tuxedo and roses and then the mask, spear, and bloody left hand. In the background is his archnemesis Argent, the noble werewolf.

"Grendel is important because it provides a release for Matt's dark side," Wagner's editor and longtime friend Diana Schutz told the Dark Horse blog. "Whereas Mage offers a more personal, more positive approach to the world, Grendel really does reach into those icky corners that we generally try to hide -- but which also need confronting."

As everyone knows, Wagner will make a return appearance next February 20-22, 2026 at the third annual Original Art Expo (OAX) in Orlando, FL. His pre-show commissions are going quickly so be sure to book yours as soon as possible to guarantee you will get one. Pricing and details are available on the website at the link.
