Alison Bechdel is a cartoonist whose poignant memoir Fun Home has achieved worldwide acclaim, multiple awards including a MacArthur Fellowship, and even inspired a hit Broadway musical. Prior to publishing Fun Home, Bechdel was most notable for her long running comic strip Dykes To Watch Out For, in which she popularized the famous "Bechdel test". The test stipulates that in order to pass a movie must have a minimum of two women, whose characters have names, and engage in a conversation about something other than a male character.
