Description

Karate Kid vs. Wildcat by Jerry Ordway

I first encountered Jerry Ordway's work in his run on Superman and I quickly became a fan of both his art and his writing. I've followed him on to Wildstar, SHAZAM, and a ton of other comics since then. I also found a bunch of his old All-Star Squadron issues and enjoyed the heck out of them. So when Jerry and I set up this commission and I gave him a few characters to choose from for Karate Kid's opponent, I was very glad that he chose Wildcat. Jerry suggested them sparring in a boxing ring and I loved the idea. And as you can see here, Jerry did an awesome job with it! Val Armorr and Ted Grand both look great here, and I also love the audience (the JSA!) and the overhead lights. Such a fantastic commission! Huge thanks to Jerry for knocking it out of the park for me!

Although most people know that Ted Grant is a great boxer, what isn't as widely known is that he is proficient in many other forms of hand-to-hand combat. That said, he's still not on Val Armorr's level. BUT, if they had a sparring match using purely boxing skills, Val would have a serious challenge on his hands. Because Ted is possibly the greatest boxer of all time and Val is just not used to sticking to only form of fighting. Either way, it would be fun to watch.

If you like this piece, then please do go buy some comics featuring Jerry's work in physical and/or digital format.
