DescriptionThis fabulous action page featuring Iron Man in hand to hand combat with the Titanium Man is a magical battle page that holds much sentimental value for me as it was one of the first two comics I ever bought as a boy and I remember being ill at home for a number of days and reading and rereading this story many times over, with awe and great wonderment. The wonderful artwork of Don Heck, who is only just beginning to receive the recognition he deserves as a true key professional of the early Silver Age Marvel explosion, and beautifully inked by a masterful Wally Wood, gives much pleasure to enjoy. Also of added interest is the clear 'commie' bashing that came out of the Cold War era evidenced in the text (and subtext) on the page, something that clearly meant little to me as a boy growing up on the other side of the globe downunder.Sold through HERITAGE June 2025. I'm not an automatic Heck fan so this page is a happy surprise to see -- really great, classic action made more 3D and deep by the inks. Fantastic pick up -- congratulations.

With certain books, as a youngster, I used to be disappointed if what should have been Kirby, turned out to be Heck. I think my taste has matured (hopefully) over the years, and his work engages my attention. I think Wally Wood's inks give a huge positive to the pencils.

Interestingly, even though I absolutely loved the story it took me a long time to fully appreciate Don Heck's apparent scratchy delineation, beautifully solidified by Wally Wood's skilful inking; I see it through an older and more mature set of eyes.
