Description

The events shown in this strip took place on the return from the third road trip, which involved the Gasoline Alley characters going out west for the first time. It appears that in the early days of highways town officials were basically allowed to use bribes to ensure that roads continued to go through their areas. How things changed. I wonder if King would have put those words in Doc's mouth if he had forseen the demise of so many small towns as a result of modern highways which no longer brought travelers to spend money within their borders.
