Description

Doug Mahnke's style is ideal for the intensity of this bitter faceoff between Lex Luthor and his daughter Lena, under the influence of Brainiac 13. The use of five horizontal panels of identical size works incredibly well, especially with the shift in perspective and scope in the final panel. I also really enjoyed how inker Tom Nguyen blankets that final panel in darkness, conveying not only the ugliness and drama of the moment, but Lena/B13's power.

Distinguishing elements of this page include the fact the Brainiac symbols on Lena's forehead are pasted on, but in the first panel, it's drawn on that pasteup while the one in the third panel is a stat. Actually, Lena's entire head, except her eyes, in the third panel is a pasted-on stat.

You can see the original rough blueline pencils for the first Brainiac symbol in the first panel, and one can see rough, grey pencil lines on spots all over the page. The letering, right on the board, boasts several whiteout corrections.
