Description

This is the cover of "Disney Anni d'Oro" #23, inspired by the story "Zio Paperone e la febbre del Rodio", written and illustrated by Romano Scarpa and first published on Topolino magazine #1270-1271 in 1980.

It's a story about a (new) challenge between Scrooge and J.D. Rockerduck that sees the two ducks fight over the search of a Rhodium (that's worth more than gold) mine in Oregon, a mine that's also the secret of a native American tribe of which Penna Stinta, an old Scrooge's friend since the Klondike gold rush, is part of.

While I usually prefer Scarpa's oldest stories (from the '50s and '60s), I find there's something really special in this one. I believe it is the great friendship between Scrooge and Penna Stinta, and their peculiar way to celebrate it. Needless to say, the Master Giorgio Cavazzano chose to capture precisely that feeling on this cover, and so it was (for me) love at first sight.
