Description

I was lucky enough to manage to get to Comic-Con International San Diego for the second time in 2003, and this was the first sketch I got during that great trip. I was determined to get a contribution from the amazing George Perez, who's probably my favorite comic artist of all time. George was with CrossGen Comics at the time, and that now-defunct publisher was great when it came to make its talent available to fans.

As I do with all artists I approach with this themed sketchbook, I told George to draw whatever he wanted. I love his choice of an iconic super-hero character and a silly, comedic tone.

He used a thin-tipped marker for this sketch, but you can see the rough pencils as well. The Hulk has always been an over-the-top, extreme character, but Perez exaggerated his features even more for this cute, entertaining image. So glad to include this wonderful artist in my highly personalized collection of quick comic art.
