DescriptionThis new hybrid is a tribute to the director Nicolas Roeg and one of the historical writers of Topolino magazine, Carlo Chendi."The Man Who Fell to Earth" is about an alien (David Bowie) who has come to Earth in search of water to save his home planet. With the aid of a business partner, he uses his knowledge to create profitable inventions and becomes rich and wealthy. While developing a method to transport water, he begins to fall in love with a human woman, learns some human customs, and becomes addicted to a few of them (alcohol), and, as soon as he's ready to leave Earth, he's blocked and held captive by the government. Now, in Alberto's illustration, we find the alien David Bowie (in duck form) that's impersonating OK Quack, an alien duck created by Chendi. OK Quack has extraordinary telepathic and telekinetic powers that allow him to lift every kind of object, including full buildings, and open locks just by talking to them (but he also loves talking to flowers in the park). He travels in space using a spaceship that can shrink to the size of a coin... and he lost it at coin size: he then started searching for his spaceship in Uncle Scrooge's money bin, based on the idea that all the coins in the world, sooner or later, will end up there. So, true genius here, combining the alien of the movie with the one from Disney comic books. As you can easily guess, Alberto put quite a lot of references in the illustration, have fun finding all of them! Also included, in the additional images, are the preliminary and color versions (by Lavoradori himself). Please check the other pieces in the series: - 01) The DUCK Thing (Rodolfo Cimino/John Carpenter) - 02) The DUCK Brood (Luciano Bottaro/David Cronenberg) - 03) Stalker (Giovan Battista Carpi/Andreij Tarkovskij) - 04) Valhalla Rising (Massimo De Vita/Nicolas Winding Refn) - 05) I Giorni Contati (Carl Barks/Elio Petri) - 06) 2001: A Space Odyssey (Floyd Gottfredson/Stanley Kubrick) - 07) The Birds (Romano Scarpa/Alfred Hitchcock) - 08) The Abyss (Giorgio Cavazzano/James Cameron) - 09) Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Corrado Mastantuono/Don Siegel) - 10) The Man Who Fell to Earth (Carlo Chendi/Nicolas Roeg) - 11) Gił la Testa (Ub Iwerks/Sergio Leone) - 12) Eraserhead (Al Hubbard/David Lynch) - 13) Dersu Uzala (Al Taliaferro/Akira Kurosawa) - 14) The Zero Theorem (Bill Walsh/Terry Gilliam) - 15) Gran Torino (Dick Kinney/Clint Eastwood) - 16) Breathless (Paul Murry/Jean-Luc Godard) - 17) Edward Scissorhands (Walt Disney/Tim Burton) - 18) Wild Strawberries (Ward Kimball/Ingmar Bergman) - 19) Altered States (Vic Lockman/Ken Russell) - 20) Kill Bill (Marc Davis//Quentin Tarantino) - 21) Mackenna's Gold (Guido Martina/J. Great piece by Lavoradori, which (especially the color version) perfectly captures that unique and alienating feel from the movie!
