DescriptionA non-All-Star Squadron piece, but still Earth 2-related ---- and great work as always from Brendon and Brian Fraim!I assume most people are aware that, when Roy Thomas stood down as Marvel's Editor-In-Chief in 1974, Carmine Infantino tried to get him to move to DC as a writer, but that Roy ultimately decided to stay at Marvel on that occasion. However... Just Imagine --- if he'd accepted the offer. Could *this* have been the breakout book of the Bronze Age? I'm guessing that Carmine (being a cautious sort) would have wanted to test a mid-1970s Infinity Inc out in DC's tryout comic of the time, First Issue Special - and handily the premiere issue of that series hit the stands at the same time as Giant Size X-Men #1, the cover being homaged here. Obviously once the Infinitors graduated to their own magazine, the story would have been slightly different - this pre-dates the 70's JSA revival, so no Power Girl or Huntress; the Ultra-Humanite's white ape body was still several years in the future; and the team would have met the JSA, as opposed to the All-Star Squad, when they went back to the 1940s. But I'd like to think it would have worked regardless.... Social/Sharing |
