"Non stancarti di Andare" is a graphic novel, first published by Bao in Italy in 2017, written by Teresa Radice and illustrated by Stefano Turconi. Yes, the same creative team (and a family in real life) that also gifted us with "Viola Giramondo" and the absolute masterpiece "Il Porto Proibito".
The story is about Iris and Ismail, a couple, living in Italy, that fate suddenly and abruptly separates... Iris discovers she's pregnant while Ismail is in Damascus, Syria, and found himself in the middle of a war without any possibility to communicate with Iris.
It's a book about the meaning of life, love, struggle, distance. A book full of extraordinary characters. A book to learn destroying barriers. A book full of beauty and life.
Kudos to both Teresa, for a plot and script so emotional, and Stefano, for giving life and astonishingly beautiful colors to it.
This is page 081 (085 in the published book) where you can see Ismail during part of his solitary and extremely perilous journey to come back to Iris (and his soon to be born baby that he didn't know existed). A page of pure visual poetry.
I do own another page from the story, see it
here.
Huge thanks to Teresa, Stefano and Antonio!
