Description
Prime Argentinian era Pratt with Oesterheld writing and publishing. Hora Cero Suplemento Semanal n. 78 in 1959. These pieces are often cropped, reformatted or smaller format so this is a nice, large intact example. I was particularly drawn to the sea gulls and the girl image as well as the large panoramic top panel. Even the word Corto appears in the last panel. The Sgt. Kirk character was a Corto Maltese prototype. On the back of this was a bonus, a large inked sketch/drawing of a witch by Pratt. I have included this in the extra images as well as a photo of the art as my scanner bled the lovely blue color that the original has on it. This was purchased at Lucca comics festival 2019, 60 years after it was created.

but what about the castle? where the hell is it?

I begin to doubt that we see it, short ... volcanic areas like this are prone to earthquakes ...

some earth tremor must have knocked him down. Or maybe its ruins have been covered by some mantle of lava

that would be awful, doctor ...

to have come so far to have risked so much, not to find anything other than smoking stones ...

It's hard to recognize failure, condesita, but it's better to get used to the idea

I also believe, like the doctor, that the castle does not exist anymore ... the emeralds will be around, buried in lava ... and ...

and those birds? sprouted from the earth!

they are seagulls, short

Hey Jeff, it seems you brought some souvenir home from Europe :) Gorgeous example of Pratt's early period. And yes, the woman's profile and the seagulls are exquisite, not to mention that spectacular first panel!

Lovely page. I hadn't known about Sgr. Kirk at all!

For some reason Urania still has this page listed for auction here and on their site: http://www.uraniaaste.com/lotto/153-pratt-hugo-il-sergente-kirk-1959/

I guess they probably just forgot to remove it.

Every panel is a winner on this page! Thanks for including the pic with the blue. Very cool to see that. And what a fun witch drawing! Congrats!

Fantastic!  Love the sweeping vista at the top.  Wonderful how he designed the plumes of smoke and clouds.  The faces are terrific as well; I particularly like the profile of the female character.

This is a great page composition, each single panel is a little masterpiece. The woman is wonderful and also the upper panoramic view.. everything looks fine and tells us something of the Master Pratt style.
