Description
With the story of the Undying Ones having stalled with the cancellation of Doctor Strange (after #183), Roy Thomas takes the opportunity to pick up the tale in Sub-Mariner #22, making this the second pre-Defenders story. Here, Strange explains the history of the Undying Ones and the Nameless One, and of their baleful influence on our world. This swarm of weird and distorted demons is ideal subject matter for Marie Severin, and she conveys this wild Cthulu-insired backstory with verve. Signed by Marie Severin, at the top.

Marie Severin is an artistic hero of mine, and Johnny Craig provided fine inks on these issues. I like pages like this (and the Eternals comics) that feature Marvel's prehistoric cosmology.

Dynamic artistic duo: the lush inks of Johnny Craig perfectly enchance the versatile compositions of Marie Severin! An ideal team for such an outlandish story!

I've heard that Marvel was not great with letting artists always get away with interesting panel shapes, so pages without rows of boxes always catch my attention. Fun page!

I love the (under appreciated) Marie pages inked by Johnny Craig

Agreed! The lines are just so clean, and the designs are so imaginative. They were a great combo. Thanks!
