Description
2nd of 2 splash pages I’m posting today featuring Iceman. Always been a fan of the character since watching Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends as a kid, so when I saw he had his own 4 issue miniseries coming out at that time, I was adamant about picking it up! I really liked the late Alan Kupperberg’s interior art, where much of the story happens in a different plane of reality, and that led to some nice visuals. Plus the 4 books were wrapped up in sweet covers by one of my absolute favorite artists of all time in Mike Zeck!

OK, onto the art. One of the best images from the series, with Iceman taking it to the book’s primary antagonist, Oblivion. I like how he’s descending on the bad guy with full ice blast RAKKing :) And that “RAKK!” and the additional lettering at the upper right was another reason I picked this up – they add a vintage-y feel in the vein of older title splashes, which are some of my favorite types of pieces. I’ve actually got a title splash from this series if you care to take a look: https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1220985. Lastly, love Gustovich’s dark inks, rounding out a great splash overall, which from the time seem to be getting tougher and tougher to get!

Thanks fellow CAFer, Nikolaos K, for selling and I hope you all are staying safe out there!

Bobby Drake!  I am a big fan of Iceman as well.  Such an underrated Omega level badass.  Love the evil version from AoA in the Uncanny Xforce run demonstrating the full power of Iceman.

Yeah, man, I forgot to mention in the description - Omega level badassery! When you think about his power set and the applications when maximized - crazy cool stuff. And if you look at the bottom left of the page Iceman speaks to the perceived trivialness of his powers...and we all know they're anything but! Thanks for the comment, JN!

Not sure what year this miniseries came out, but this splash does have a wonderful vintage quality to it.  Kupperberg is such a solid artist, and he shines forth here.  Exciting piece !!

Ice pellets/shards coming at him full blast but Oblivion takes it like a boss.

Hmmmm. I live in the far north. I've been blasted by ice pellets my whole life and have suffered no damage. Well was that incident in 2007 but I digress.

Upon reflection most mutants don't develop powers until teens. I distinctly remember going through "changes" around that time.

Dare I say perhaps I'm another Canadian mutant?

Or I'm just way way to tired and need to lay off the coffee.

Oh yeah, there was that incident...and I agree...from what I know...digressing is the best courrse.  I mean, 2007 was a long time ago.

The trippy part....you could be a canadian mutant AND tired/overcaffeinated.   But as far as where you are on the spectrum?!  Who's to say :)

Thank for all the great comments as always John.  Well timed/unexpected chuckles...always appreciated!
