DescriptionKLASSIC KIRBY! Check out this killer battle cover for Marvel Double Feature #18! It's got a huge figure of Captain America getting zapped by the mindblasts of MODOK, the evil AIM leader. In the background, you've got Shield Agent Sharon Carter and a couple of AIM goons looking on. It's a jam-packed, action-filled cover penciled by Jack Kirby and inked by Frank Giacoia. I don't think I've ever seen a better MODOK cover. This issue reprints the first appearance of MODOK from Tales of Suspense #94, which was drawn by Kirby in 1967. MODOK was, of course, one of Captain America's most frequently recurring villains and also one of the weirdest. He had that massive head which gave him superintelligence, but also made his arms and legs mostly useless. For mobility he used a flying hoverchair, armed with even more weapons. Anyway, I love this cover. It's got a huge Captain America, a classic villain and loads of action. What more could any fanboy ask for?Social/Sharing |

So where exactly is the address of your museum? My goodness! Don't mean to downplay Cap's presence on this cover, but that Kirby Modok is just such a treat. By the way, I'm not the slightest bit masochistic, but I am thoroughly enjoying the relentless pounding of your art updates! LOL! Thanks for sharing with us mere mortals. Klassic for sure! GREAT Kirby cover example. So dynamic, and that was the name of the game, which he brought like none other! And such a great rendition of MODOK :) And his Cap is of course timeless. Big congrats, Bill!

I always felt this was Kirby's BEST effort of all the covers he drew for Marvel in the 70's. He got everything right about this one. My biggest Kirby collecting regret EVER was having to sell the original TOS #94 cover art, the source on which this one is based. That's a tale of woe for another time. ;)

Bill, no fanboy can ever ask for a better Bronze Age masterpiece cover! I missed this one when you posted. I love MODOK. Who doesn't. And Inked by the greatest inker of the Bronze Age, with respectful reverence to Joe Sinnott. Bill, you are killing us. But keep posting. Lol
