Description

15" x 10" image area. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Detective Comics #552 page 13 original art (DC 1985). Pat Broderick and Bob Smith. Broderick makes his mark with his version of Batman dropping in, as well as his signature large eyes in the villain's close-up. Superb text! - the essence of a great piece of narrative art.

A Gotham Underworld killer-for-hire promises the crooks he will eliminate the Batman. After learning of this plan to kill him, Batman returns to the Batcave, where he comes up with a chemical that will slow his heart-rate, simulating death. Batman confronts the mercenary, who gets a lucky shot at Batman and hits him in the head with a wooden stick but not before Batman activates the chemical to feign death, luring the bunch of criminals in for an ambush.
