DescriptionDetective Comics (Vol. 1) #1011 original cover art for "The Rising Sun" (November 2019). Batman and Lucius Fox are hiding from Deadshot who is looking for them in earnest as flames and smoke surround them. This issue was part of the "Year of the Villain" event that saw villains taking the upper hand throughout the DC Universe. You can feel the chaos on the page, and Batman is clearly in guardian mode as he tries to outwit a determined Deadshot. Though Batman looks good, Deadshot steals the show on this cover, and I absolutely love his character design. Guillem March, who has had a hand in a lot of the modern Batman titles from both a cover and interior standpoint, both penciled and inked this cover. Done in pencils and inks on 11" X 17" art board. I have also uploaded 2 prelims that represented 4 different ideas that Guillem presented to DC. Though the final looks a bit different than the original approved design, it is quite close. I personally love how the final turned out, but it is cool to see the entire design process!Social/Sharing |

I've found that I'm both hot and cold on March's art. Sometimes I really like his covers and sometimes I don't. But you acquired one I DO! Really nice work here.

I agree completely. I have a number more from him I will be posting once I get around to it, and I am also hot and cold depending on the cover (though I appreciate his art regardless!). This one is one of my favorites by him, though. Just a great image all the way around!
