DescriptionI've been looking around for a Dark Knight Returns piece for a while now. Then out of the blue, I was offered this stunning Frank Miller illustration used in both The Dark Knight Returns--10th Anniversary Edition and in Batman Noir: The Dark Knight Returns. It's a fantastic piece depicting the Dark Knight as a towering figure balanced on a wire, staring down on Gotham City. It's interesting to me that he's shown balanced on a wire, since he is, in fact, trying to find the balance between good and evil, vengeance and mercy, life and death. Balancing on a wire also nods to the fact he is in actual physical danger. But there is hope--Perched on the wire beneath him is Carrie Kelly, the new Robin. She's not in his shadow, she's in the light. IMHO, it's one of the coolest new illustrations added to these editions.Special thanks to Wesley Liu for allowing me to add it to my collection. That is one ultra cool piece!! Wonderful addition to your fantastic collection. Batman looks pretty comfortable standing on that wire. Shows he has found his true balance. He looks so imposing, and yeah I hafta agree with Janes, kinda judgy. Having Carrie Kelly Robin in the image is a great bonus. Congrats!!

I've always liked Frank Miller's minimalist B&W contrasts, but I love the detail of the boot treads. I think it speaks a lot about the brutality of the book.

If there are extenuating circumstances...OOPS, dropped my mike too. DKR is still my favorite ever US comic.

I am more of a Sin City fan, but in this case I will make an exception. Miller at this finest. Congrats.

Keeping in mind that we're all at the mercy of what's available (or what we can surface to buy) and what we can afford, I'm always in awe of Bill's ability to curate a collection of apex one-and-done examples of wonderful comic art from various peak comics series. Here's another perfect example!
Frank Miller's dramatic energy and design sense are well represented here, but oddly enough... I think I'm responding to the brushy laid-in blacks as much as any other element! Thanks for sharing!

This is Frank Miller at the peak of his power. Effortlessly moody and striking but with strong figurework. Congratulations my friend!

Oh, yeah! The subtlety in this image, and all the themes and subtext are brilliantly supported by artistic tricks and choices. Miller says a lot with a paucity, as he does. Awesome! Huge congrats!

Brilliant! I never really noticed the soles of shoes in comics until Miller showed them to me in his Sin City. Batman's are just as nice. Great lighting!
