DescriptionDifferent images invoke different memories in different people's minds. For me, the second I laid eyes on this cover I was immediately transported back to 1982, the first year I began reading and collecting comics after encountering a brand new comic shop that had just opened for business just a 10 minute walk from my home. That week, when I first entered that shop and was immediately bitten by all the four color goodness staring back at me from the shelves and the Mylar an Mylite bagged comics hanging off hooks on the wall, I was mesmerize in particular by 2 things: The top row of books which were around 10 consecutive Byrne X-Men issues, and the second row which was closest to me, featuring the first 10 issues of New Teen Titans. I loved ALL of them, but for some inexplicable reason, my 12 year old mind kept being drawn to the last NTT issue in the row, issue #10. Maybe it's because of the sense of immediately peril the heroes were in, or maybe it's just that due to the layout of the store and placement of the back issue bins, that's the issue I could get closest to and get the best look at. I can't say for sure, but that cover image stuck with me ever since. So that is why that George Pérez cover and those memories are the ones that immediately come to mind whenever I look at this Grummett/Austin cover. You can see the New Teen Titans cover I'm speaking about in the additional images I've added above. Fun times! Social/Sharing |

Awesome cover! And agreed, I love this layout as well cause for me, this immediately reminded me of Ladronn's cover for Incredible Hulk 92 (personal bias as that was one of my favorite storylines). This hobby of ours is a wonderous thing. Congrats!

You see? That's exactly what I mean! I was reading Hulk at the time of that issue, yet I would never have thought of it! But looking at it again now, I dod see that it has the same sort of scene going on, just from a lower camera angle and with ancient weapons rather than high tech ones! Very cool, T Shen, thanks for taking the time to share that memory!

Beautiful cover to an underrated series! Love the similarities between this and the NTT cover! Awesome eye and a wicked story to match! Congrats!

Yeah the correlation between this cover and the Perez NTT one is pretty clear! So I guess I can't give Grummett ALL of the credit ;) Nice perspective and composition, really gives that closing in, imminent threat, feeling! Congrats!

Love the description, absolutely love the cover !!! Interesting how the image invokes different memories for you and T Shen. Instead of reminding me of another comic book cover, the image instead brings me back to a comic-themed summer camp I attended when I was 12. Why oh why did I have to sign up for the "X-Men Danger Room Experience?" Anyway, congrats on another outstanding Grummett piece!

Great cover. Always fun to see Austin elevating any artist with his inks but especially when they mesh so well. Must be the Byrne filiation 😊
The similarities between the two covers are pretty obvious but was it unconscious on Tom's part? Because no "after Perez"...

And now I see it, too. That's very cool! And I love the pairing of Grummett and Austin here. Super crisp and beautiful work. Nostalgia + great art = the best. Congrats!

It's hard to say anything that hasn't already been said in the other comments except to say I love the structure of the figures, the anatomy, the expressions and the sense of urgency here. The way the weapons point in from all sides of the cover draws us straight in to faces of our heroes in peril. Love everything about it, but Kitty in particular! Huge congrats on another fun pick up.

Despite how difficult you thought it was to say anything that hadn't already been said, you still managed to do it! I've always said, if you just write exactly what it is that you like about a given piece, it's guaranteed to be a great comment. Thanks for taking the time, Mr. Fleed!

it was too late to take the first part out after I pressed send -but my first thought was ' wow -so many comments, what could I add. then I took my time and tried to put in my own perspective.'
