This is a definitive Astro City page in my opinion.

Going on 25 years now, Astro City is a love letter to superhero comics. The first two volumes are still the most classic stories introducing analogues to Superman, The Fantastic Four, Captain America, Batman and Robin, and Spider-Man.

This page is from the first appearance of Jack In the Box, the stand in for Spider-Man. The character designs by Alex Ross are pitch perfect in their uniqueness while instantly invoking their silver age counterparts.

The left panel highlights Brent Anderson’s kinetic energy while giving an ideal image of Jack In the Box. Throughout the page you see the criminals reaction to him, which is the crux of Astro City’s magic.

As a bonus, I think that’s writer Kurt Busiek depicted as one of the bar patrons.
