DescriptionWhen I was in my early 20s I wrote to Alex Toth to ask him to do a Spider-man commission for me. Since this was pre-internet, we was kind enough to write back and decline the opportunity. He included some doodles along with his note. He did share that he didn't like Spidey's red & blue costume but admitted he thought the black suit was okay.I picked up this spread from Albert Moy's August 2021 art drop. Such a dynamic, action-packed piece. Also note: Terry Austin has inscribed this piece at the bottom left. I guess he must have gifted it to someone at some point. Social/Sharing |

A wonderful work by a master of the craft. Crimebusting Superman that had the charm of the George Reeves show. Splendidly inked by another master of the craft.

The top of the DPS shows that, when he wanted to, Toth wasn't always just the minimalist master of chiaroscuro. He added a lot of detail to this one. (Also, a random thought, and it would have been about five or so years too soon, but, now, when I read Superman saying, "Now stop looking so comical..." I half expect the goon to reply, "I can't help it, Toth drew me that way.")

Great story on your encounter with the legendary curmudgeon. Dynamic DPS! The off kilter panels on the bottom are great. I also like the address stamp.

An incredible amount of details in this wonderful double page splash! Which of course is ironic given that Alex Toth was a master of the "less is more" school of illustration.

This really is a special piece. Amazing to see Toth putting in so much detail on a page. No one could do simplicity like him and clearly no one can top his ability to design detail. Love this! Huge congrats!
