Description

Barry Kitson produces a variety of informal works: warm-up pieces, exploration of new techniques, and trying new media.

His process for selecting topics is interesting. Caitlin Reynolds posts on Barry's public Facebook page when she needs a new list for Barry. FWIW, Barry seems to enjoy doing unusual/uncommon characters for this work. If he uses the suggestion, Caitlyn will offer it to the suggester for purchase.

What you get may be a bit different than expected because he uses these to do unusual work.

Given my love of Sugar and Spike, when Caitlin asked, I responded "Sugar and Spike."

The result is rather interesting, we have kids about to paint on the wall. I assume that they are going to color an image of Banksy's Girl with Balloon. As you might expect, they aren't really up to the challenge.

The entire piece is watercolor and some of it is very light, but it's worth noting that the Girl with Balloon is reaching up to a Bank which is by the sea (Banksy).

If you aren't familiar with Girl with Balloon, you might remember that one of Banksy's Girl with Balloon paintings was partially shredded immediately after an auction closed. It's up for sale as of this writing. :)

Pretty interesting piece, in my opinion.

Interesting choice for him to drop the black color for the Banksy portions on the wall. The spilled paint dominates the painting and is very interesting to follow where they cross over.

Very cool to see Kitson drawing these characters. Definitely a different feel than his usual art, but I like that he stretches himself in this way. Huge congrats!
