DescriptionThe end page from the "Sky Rangers" story in the October 1947 issue of Rangers Comics. Charles Sultan is attributed with both the pencils and inks on this. Which makes sense since it would have been completed as a freelance assignment for Fiction House during this time in Sultan's career.Gert Gilbert (the story's villain) takes out an option against the “Tall Texan’s” oil well coming in on time. She then sets out to guarantee that does not happen by hook or by crook. She meets her demise on this page. Great image of our heroes Captain Morgan and Pete in the bottom row of panels. Comic book artist and editor Charles Sultan began at the Eisner-Iger Studio in 1939, but was art director at Chesler between 1940 and 1953. During his period, he did art on features for several additional companies. At Fawcett, he drew 'Minute Man' in Master Comics, as well as "Rick O'Shay" and "Spy Smasher." Sultan's Fiction House credits include "Air Heroes", "Clipper Kirk'", "Sky Rangers" and "Suicide Smith." He drew several romance features for Quality Comics in the early 1950s, as well as "Black Condor" in the 1940s. Additional credits are National/DC's "Johnny Quick" and ACG's "Buffalo Belle." In the 1950s and 1960s he went into magazine art, working as editor for Sports Car Wheel, Peril Magazine, Pioneer West and Wild West. He was also a publisher and editor for pocket books. Fabulous, if brutal drama from Sultan. The opening parachute pose is excellent and the linework is crisp throughout. Congrats!

Thanks Paul! That first panel is nice, and the planes crashing make for an exciting page.

Baller! They really only showed the woman getting just desserts and the heroes having no qualms about the gang's deadly demise.

Strange isn't it Marcus? No remorse at all for the villians deaths. You do see that a lot in Golden Age stories though.

The lines between good guys and bad guys were set and there was no redemption arcs during those days. A death sentence for bad guys was assured. I guess that's to warn children to never ever go astray in the first place.
