Whoot! This was just one of several stories of Leia on missions of her own in the original Marvel run, that expanded on an already strong film character. A couple Star Wars comics and a cigar box of action figures could almost take up half a summer break in a year between movies. Sure miss those days. And if memory serves, a young Randy Stradley wrote this issue, before going on to revive the franchise comic license at Dark Horse a decade later. Superb page Michael!
Yup, Randy Stradley did write this issue, and his story of a Stormtrooper changing sides blew my mind as a little kid. The fact that he co-wrote "Crimson Empire," my favorite miniseries of the Dark Horse era, is also not lost on me. The guy has a talent for writing Imperials.
Well, you had the good fortune to fall on a great comic and a strong issue from SW for your first.
I only wish Bob would have inked himself on all his SW work but that's just nit-picking as Palmer was obviously no slouch and a good fit in terms of artistic coherency.
Fantastic Madeleine de Proust :)
Congrats on a cool SW page!
Loved reading the description. Huge congratulations on picking this up. May the 4th be with you
Huge congratz on a page from your first, and what a poignant scene at that.
The nostalgic force is strong with this one. Congrats Michael!
Awesome Michael! My favorite part is that last panel where a Stormtrooper actually hit a target!
So cool you found this one from your first comic!
Congrats on getting a page from your first!
Love Tom Palmer's inks on any artist but he really brings out the best in McLeod.
Congratulations on winning this one, Michael. Stormtroopers and Leia with those beautiful Palmer inks makes this really great looking piece!
Killer page man!!! so cool and from your first comic that is amazing. congrats and may the 4th be with you!!!
What a superb page. Hearing the importance of it for you. Even better. What a grate page in celebration for the day.
A thumb goes up, Wessel goes by
I'm only now and then trooper am I
Hitchin' a ride, joinin' Leia's side
Gotta get McLeod, The Stormtrooper finds light
It's just not fair Luke and Leia train
It's Palmer's drawin' ink like pourin' rain
Rebel Jedi, Rebel Jedi
Gotta get Alderaan, out of my mind
Ride, ride, ride, Left the Dark Side
Ride, ride, ride, Betray 'em I die
Your song lyrics, as always, are insanely good.
That first one! Never leaves you. Big congrats and thanks for sharing.
A page from your first comic is the collector's dream. I missed out on a cover of mine a couple years ago, and I still kick myself. And what a great page, too, with Luke and Leia! Love the detail on the Storm Trooper. And the page was drawn by two inkers, which is fantastic. Big congrats!
Bob and Tom were a great combo for your first book
Fantastic historical gem, Michael!!! And historic to your personal experience. It's pieces like these that are closest to our hearts, in our collection for sure. Congratulations and thank you for the back story!!
Oh WOW!...a real Star Wars fans dream page! Congrats!
This flows like old fashioned newspaper strip storytelling. So effective! Congrats.
That's a fantastic description for this!
I feel a strong force on this one, young Jedi!!
Oh, man, you canNOT beat page from your first comic, and the one that got you hooked! I can picture how that Star Wars logo just immediately trapped your gaze :) BEST $0.60 you and your mom ever spent, I'd guess. Great page, too - really digging that storytelling across the top! AND, huge bonus that you liked the actual story a lot! Can't top it, my friend. Huge congrats!
Wow super jelly! Awesome Star Wars page!!
I absolutely LOVE this page!!
Nice page with usual great Palmer inks and I love your personal "description"!
