Description

In 2019, the Association "La Nona Arte" launched a new portfolio project for 2020, titled "Monsters & Beauties" with illustrations by the great Frank Cho.

The final pieces would have been in black and white, with (possible) touches of color, which feature the most well-known creatures of the horror world together with procacious beauties typical of Frank Cho's art, then collected in a prestigious limited edition portfolio.

Here are the (final) chosen subjects:
- The Monster of Frankenstein
- The Mummy
- The Wife of Frankenstein (x2)
- The Phantom of the Opera
- The Creature from the Black Lagoon
- Nosferatu
- Minotaur
- King Kong
- Chimera
- Sirens
- Medusa
- Dracula
- The Hunchback of Notre-Dame

Of course, I didn't think twice and also was lucky to get the subject I craved, "Nosferatu".

The project was initially planned to be completed by mid-2020, just in time for Naples Comicon, but due to the COVID pandemic everything ultimately shifted to 2021 (with portfolios delivered at Lucca Comics & Games) and 2022 (Frank back in Italy in Spring for both the Comicon and Lake Como Comic Art Festival).

Here's Cho's version of Count Orlok as Nosferatu, firmly grabbing a beautiful woman by the throat. He's menacing, powerful, terrifying.

Beautiful and disturbing at the same time. You want to look away.. but Cho's art is so good you can't help but look! Congrats!!

Totally stunning Nosferatu illustration! Frank Cho really outdid himself here. Nosferatu looks appropriately evil, a point which is exemplified by the poor woman being choked to death! Brilliant execution, if you will pardon the pun.
